Cost Conscious Culture

12 April, 2010 by James Lawther Leave a Comment

Chrysler has been bailed out to the tune of over $7 billion by the US government over the past few years.  In efforts to repay the loan it has taken some drastic actions.

According to the free press initiatives include taking all the clocks off the walls in their headquarters in Auburn Hills.  They estimate that this will save $20,000 per year in batteries and lost time spent changing the time twice a year.

Now either they are busily squeezing every last penny of efficiency out of their supply chain and are leaving no stone unturned, or this is desperation taking hold.

Driving efficiency into an operation isn’t a quick fix, it takes time and perseverance.  Waiting until there is a budget crisis is leaving it a little too late.

Perhaps now is the time to start.

James Lawther is a middle-aged, middle manager.

To reach this highly elevated position he has worked in numerous industries, from supermarket retailing to tax collecting.  He has had several operational roles, including running the night shift in a frozen pea packing factory and carrying out operational research for a credit card company.

As you can see from his C.V. he has either a wealth of experience or is incapable of holding down a job.  If the latter is true this post isn’t worth a minute of your attention.

Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to read it and decide for yourself.
