Black Men can’t Swim

12 August, 2010 by James Lawther Leave a Comment

How many Olympic class black swimmers can you think of?  Eric Moussambani?

There is an evolutionary theory for this:

White people have evolved to live in cold climates, so have a layer of subcutaneous fat to keep them warm.  This also aids buoyancy.  Black people on the other hand carry less fat and tend to sink.

The theory cuts both ways.  To help dissipate heat black people have a higher surface area to volume ratio (longer arms and legs).

That is why I would happily take on Eric the Eel, but not not Mike Tyson.

I don’t know how robust the theory is, but I do know you should play to your strengths:

James Dyson invents
Donald Trump makes deals
Warren Buffet knows the market
Jeff Bezos optimises

Compete where you can win.

James Lawther is a middle-aged, middle manager.

To reach this highly elevated position he has worked in numerous industries, from supermarket retailing to tax collecting.  He has had several operational roles, including running the night shift in a frozen pea packing factory and carrying out operational research for a credit card company.

As you can see from his C.V. he has either a wealth of experience or is incapable of holding down a job.  If the latter is true this post isn’t worth a minute of your attention.

Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to read it and decide for yourself.
