Sheet Music

22 February, 2010 by James Lawther Leave a Comment

My daughter has just started music lessons.  She is so keen and enthusiastic it is hard not to like the god awful noise that she makes.

I had to go to a classical music shop to buy her a special CD to listen to as part of her studies.  As I walked through the shop door I noticed that the shop keeper had gone to the time and trouble of printing up and laminating a sign which was displayed at eye level in the door.  The sign said:

WE DO NOT SELL SHEET MUSIC

In capitals, just like that, the written equivalent of shouting.

It must be difficult for him, all these customers coming in wanting to give him money for something he isn’t prepared to stock.

There is nothing like customer focus, and that is nothing like it.

James Lawther is a middle-aged, middle manager.

To reach this highly elevated position he has worked in numerous industries, from supermarket retailing to tax collecting.  He has had several operational roles, including running the night shift in a frozen pea packing factory and carrying out operational research for a credit card company.

As you can see from his C.V. he has either a wealth of experience or is incapable of holding down a job.  If the latter is true this post isn’t worth a minute of your attention.

Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to read it and decide for yourself.
