Stupid Lazy People

8 January, 2010 by James Lawther Leave a Comment

The problem with most businesses is that they employ people who are too stupid or lazy to do the job properly.  Let me give you an example:

According to the World Health Organisation “hand hygiene is the single most important factor in reducing and preventing avoidable illnesses”, yet a survey by the National Audit Office found that in Hospitals medical staff only washed their hands properly 68% of the time.

Now I know that there are lies, damned lies and statistics but that means that they messed it up one time in three.  How difficult can it be?  Clearly Doctors and Nurses are the most stupid lazy people in the world.

Or maybe not, I have to say on personal experience they tend to be highly motivated and exceptionally clever.  Maybe the problem is they are just human.

Here are a couple of ways to fix the problem:
1.  Try shouting at them.
2.  Put up some posters, maybe train people.
3.  Develop a system to make it easy to get right.

There is an example of such a system in the video.  There are a couple of things wrong with it (I think).  It is a bit slow and clunky (easy to fix) and it is expensive.  Imagine the cost of one of these on every door!  But then how much does an infection cost?

Next time you are suffering from stupid lazy employees have a think about what you could do to make it easy for them.

To reach this highly elevated position he has worked in numerous industries, from supermarket retailing to tax collecting.  He has had several operational roles, including running the night shift in a frozen pea packing factory and carrying out operational research for a credit card company.

As you can see from his C.V. he has either a wealth of experience or is incapable of holding down a job.  If the latter is true this post isn’t worth a minute of your attention.

Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to read it and decide for yourself.
