The Best Data Visualisation Examples on the Web

13 July, 2020 by James Lawther 1 Comment

Because a picture is worth a thousand words

(or numbers) you need to see some of the best data visualisation examples. It is worth knowing that…

  1. There is a tried and tested way to communicate with data — Storytelling With Data.
  2. That infographics can be powerful — Information is Beautiful.
  3. But most infographics are not — The Guardian.
  4. That professional communicators are crystal clear — The Economist.
  5. But many communicators are far from professional — Flowing Data.
  6. That there is no point in drawing a graph unless you know why you are drawing it — Made to Measure KPIs.
  7. And that no matter how clear your charts are, it is easy to jump to the wrong conclusion — Tyler Vigen.

If the web doesn’t float your boat, or you need more examples of data visualisation at work, then try this book instead.

About the Author

James Lawther
James Lawther

James Lawther is a middle-aged, middle manager.

To reach this highly elevated position he has worked in numerous industries, from supermarket retailing to tax collecting.  He has had several operational roles, including running the night shift in a frozen pea packing factory and carrying out operational research for a credit card company.

As you can see from his C.V. he has either a wealth of experience or is incapable of holding down a job.  If the latter is true this post isn’t worth a minute of your attention.

Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to read it and decide for yourself.

Ha ha, I think perhaps people might need to know a little more (or else lots of us are wasting our time). But thanks for sharing those recommended resources, James.

The latest data visualisation book that has impressed me is Data Visualisation 2nd edition from Andy Kirk, here’s a book review to explain how much you can learn from it: https://customerinsightleader.com/books/data-visualisation-2-because-there-is-so-much-to-data-driven-design/
