£47 Million, is that a Big Number?

A big furore today about the £47 million bonus pot for the MoD, especially given the lack of equipment that soldiers have.  It got me wondering, is £47 million a lot of money?  Apparently there are 85,000 bureaucrats in the MoD.  So that means on average they got a bonus of £552 each.  Now I would like £552, but it isn’t going to by me a house on the Riviera.

What is interesting though is that there are about 233,000 serving personnel in the RAF, Army and Navy.  Or about One civil servant to every two and a half service men.

A bit of operations analysis would show that that is a big number.
